Dude! It’s me Skippito!! And a FREEBIE too!!

I LOVE Skippyjon Jones!! I always do a book study when we are learning about Cinco de Mayo. I love him so much that I ventured out to find clipart to create a unit but couldn’t find ANYTHING ANYWHEREugh! So………..drum roll please.I drew my own! Gasp!! I know, just when you thought my awesomeness had maxed out. Bwhaha!!! (Totally just kidding...maybe!)

I think I am in love with this want-to-be Chihuahua. My kids love him too. I am not going to take all the credit either just because I have an awesome Spanish accent that make this cat cooler than cool. J

Seriously, I never create units during the week. I may tweak them or fix a typo but I mainly work on the weekend. Hello! I am flipping tired after teaching kindergarten all day, lol. J If my precious darlings at school don’t suck the life out of me tire me out, my three teenagers finish the job as soon as I get home. Isn’t that just sweet?!

I started working on the new unit Tuesday night and finished it Wednesday night. Seriously, barely slept. I was on a skippy high!! Eating beans and everything. Well, that’s not really true but it added a dramatic flair didn’t it? I would have posted it on Thursday but when I got home from my Bunco group Thursday night, I passed out. Home at 9:15 p.m. sawing logs at 9:30 p.m. I posted it last night. Whenever I post a new unit, it is always on sale for half off during the first hour but you have to follow my facebook to get the announcement. Love facebook!!

Here is a preview of my new unit: Skippyjon Jones & Cinco de Mayo. (click the pics to see more) It's on sale right now!! Did I mention how excited I am about this? Do you love Skippyjon Jones? Do you have a crazy accent?

As always, here is a freebie for your downloading pleasure. It would make my day if you would follow my store when you download it (just click the picture). J Let me know what you think of my first crack at clipart. I only drew Skippyjon though. The rest I purchased. Now I am no artist so please be gentle. I’m sensitive. And on hormones. And crazy. .Just kidding!! Not really. J Hahaha!

Oh, and let me tell you my latest drama before I get off this blog thingy. I was on my way to work Friday morning and one of my besties texted me that our school had flooded. She teaches 3rd grade. Um, hello, doesn’t she know me? I was about to go into a panic attack on the high way in Pearl (my Mazda 5, yes she has a name and I love her!). I called her immediately (bestie, not Pearl...are you with me?). Me: Um, hello, you can’t text a sistah something like that! She said that her hall and the 4th/5th grade hall had a foot of water. OMG! K/1 hall was in the clear. Water hadn’t made it down our way yet thank God! Most of our stuff is on the floor.

Seriously, they would have to come pick me off the side of the highway and bring a paper sack for me to breathe in then have the crisis management team shoot me with a tranquilizer gun. Okay, that’s a tad dramatic but if my thousands of dollars worth of crap fun got ruined, I would be so upset. So, our school will be turned upside down for the next few days while they repair the damages and I will do whatever I need to do to help out. J This included donating my room to forty stinky third graders while my kids were at activities today. They had just gotten back from a field trip and were a tad ripe.  J My district moved really quickly so hopefully this will be fixed as fast as it happened. These are the days of our lives.. haha!

I have 23 more days of school but who’s counting? That would be ME! I love, love, LOVE my class this year but I am pumped about this summer. All my bags are packedI’m ready to Frog Street Press Splash, I Teach K, and Blogher! Yes my friends, I will be a travelin fool. Who’s with me?????

And last but not least, here is a funny for you. I LOVE this. Have a great weekend!!

Centers, Oviparous Unit, Bluebonnets & Wine??

We wrapped up our Oviparous Unitso much fun! Though, since we have been studying ladybugs and they are oviparous, I guess we are still doing it. Haha!

I love this time of year. Spring is such fun! We are “growing” ladybugs, first grade is “growing” frogs, and second grade has hatched baby chicks. It is creation at its finest and the kids eat it up. Did I mention the blue bonnets? OMG! I love the blue bonnets!! Here is a picture for our playground. Isn’t it lovely?
Here are some pics from our centers that we are wrapping up. I am trying to enjoy these last few weeks of Aprilalso known as the calm before the storm. J May is just craziness!

Six more Mondays until summer break. I just cannot believe it! Then I will have a high schoolerGASP! I am so not ready for that. Just talking about it makes me want a glass of wine. LOL.

So..I know you are counting down. How much time do you have until Summer Break? Planned any vacas yet? Already have a tan (insert jealousy here)?

Writer's Workshop Creating "All About" Books!!

I love creating Interactive Writing charts with my students. This is a great foundation for creating informational pieces of writing. We just finished up our unit on creating “How To” pieces of writing and have moved on to “All About” books. We have been studying insects, specifically ladybugs.  After reading about ladybugs, we created this Interactive Writing chart together.

The students wrote in the text and then each added their own ladybug art. I like for everyone to participate in some way. Then, all students have ownership over our work in the classroom.  The next day, I taught my students what the word fact meant. I told them that it is something that is true and can be proven. Then, we talked about how we would write a book using facts. I modeled this by creating an “All About Ladybugs” book. Here is my chart example.

Then, they took each selected a different topic to write about and used this paper to create their draft. Click to download. J

After they filled out this page correctly, they took this information and created a three page book.

(This is my favorite, lol)
I will post pics later of their finished products. We are still working on them. I was so impressed with how well they did. They really understood what a fact was and why it was an important part of writing an informational teach the reader something. J I really have enjoyed all of our writing adventures this year. I will have to share our finished How-To Books. They turned out great!

So, what are you writing about in your class right now?

Tax Day Sale!!

Any reason for a good sale, right? The word “taxes” makes me throw up in my mouth a little, lol. Not that we had to pay in this year but stillstress!!! My family says that I remind them of that crazy Target lady in the Black Friday sales commercials.  Um, well since I like nice things but don’t want to pay a hefty price for them, you bet I am a sale stalker! Shop til you drop friends. Several of my TPT friends are having sales too so yes, I think I will do a little shopping myself. Happy Sunday!!

Latest Obsession and a SWEET GIVEAWAY!!

I am SO excited to share with you my class’s latest obsession toy lifesaver!! Seriously, we are in need of a twelve step program already. Who knew this would make my life so much easier! Have I grabbed your attention yet?

Well, I have teamed up with a great company, Homeroom Teacher. They graciously sent me Learning Resources’ Time Tracker. Let me first say that ya’ll know I am completely honest and if I don’t like something, I am going to tell you! Well, I really like this product by my KIDSthey LOVE it! It is super simple to use, though I had to actually read the directions but it wasn’t hard.  I try not to be like my husband and figure stuff out on my own. That is how we “put together” a Wal Mart shelf by nailing it to the wall!! Seriously, not reading directions are grounds for divorce. Anyway, focus Crystal. Ya’ll know I have the attention of a gnat!

I love this product because it keeps time for you, duh! Seriously, I am “schedule challenged.” The Time Tracker is great because it gives you visual cues with the three lights (green, yellow, redlike a stop light, somebody is clever!) and you can assign a noise to each level. My kids ask me to set it anytime we are doing a task. I haven’t ringed my bell since I got it. The timer tells them when to begin and when it’s time to stop. I set it when we do morning work and they know when it gets to yellow, they need to almost be finished. When we go to centers, I set the timer to let students know when to rotate to the next center and when it’s time to clean up. You can choose the time for all three levels and assign a noise to each level of you want to. My kids like the noise we go with noise. Imagine that! The best part is my kids don’t feel micromanaged. It’s like a game to them but has kept them on their toes and moving along at a great pace.  Love, love, love!

So, are you ready for the good news? Homeroom Teacher is giving one away to one of my followers. There are a few ways you can enter. For each entry, leave your email address and tell me what you did. Here is how you can enter:
  1.    LIKE their Facebook Page.
  2.     Post about Giveaway to YOUR Facebook page.
  3.    Post about this Giveaway on YOUR blog.

That’s THREE chances to win! Trust me, you want this little ditty. It’s a life saver I tell you. Go by and check out Homeroom Teacher and tell them thanks for the giveaway. This is valued at $39.99! The winner will be chosen by a random number generator on Sunday, April 8th at 9:00 p.m. CST. Good luck!! Who needs a basket of eggs when you can take this home?!!!

Happy Wednesday friends. J

Dice Game FREEBIE and Summer Talk!!!

Greetings friends. Another week bites the dust! The countdown to summer is on. Only eight more Mondays. Can I get a whoot whoot?! Can I also say how excited I am to NOT be in school on April Fool’s Day! Not that I would have to deal with crazy pranks, let’s face it my people are five and they don’t really think outside of the box yet. I bet if you are a middle school teacher you are REALLY glad not to be in school though. I have a rule that I won’t teach you if you are taller than me. I am 5’2” so that rules out a lot grades. I won’t say I don’t like big kids, I will just say that are too “tall” for me, wink, wink.

I had to take a nap when I got home from church today. It was actually forced upon me since my body just plum passed out. I was working on my laptop trying to crank out my Spring Unit and BAM! I fell asleep with my computer on my lap. TWO HOURS LATER, I woke up! OMG! I really don’t know why I am soooo sleepy this week but it is not good I tell you! I have got to find some vitamins or make friends with a Starbucks parent.

So, let’s talk about this summer. I am so flipping excited!! I will be presenting at Frog Street Press’ Splash Conferences in Dallas and Houston, both in July. I am attending I teach K in Vegas in July and Blogher in New York in August. If you are going to one of these we MUST meet! Seriously, we are best friends, right??? The teenagers are starting to revolt knowing I will be traveling more than them. I am looking for camps and mission trips to get them traveling too. It’s not an effort to get rid of them, just to give them more experiences, ehem. J

Ooohhh, I am also so excited to share with you my class’s newest addiction toy. We love it! You will have to wait to see what it is but maybe just one more day! In the meantime, here is a dice game freebie. This is not part of my Easter Unit so if you purchased it, here is another one for you. Click the pic to download. My kids love dice games. Seriously, more than they love me, I think. J

Do you have a four day week like me? If you have a four day weekend, no bragging. We are all happy for you.kinda! We are having our egg hunt on Thursday. Its controlled chaos and the kids love it. This week we are studying our Oviparous Unit. This is a total favorite. The kids feel so big using such a big word. Totally fun. Though you have to prepare for comments like “It looks like they are pooping the eggs.” Oh, fun times.

Have a great week friends!
