Constitution Day & Family Project Freebie!

Greetings friends! What a week! I have been sick since Tuesday night but don’t worry, I am medicated haha! I still went to school every day because the thought of getting a sub on week three is terrifying! So, I have been on the couch today trying to rest but since I am taking steroids (for my asthma flare up, not to buff up haha...just wanted to clarify), I am wide awake and a sweaty mess. Yes, they make me all sweaty and jittery. Totally stinks!

Anyway, I finished my Constitution and US Symbols Unit today. If you are in Texas and follow CScope, these should help you teach your Celebrate Freedom Unit. I will create and post a Texas Unit very soon.

This year I am planning all of the science and social studies units for my team which means I plan on making several science and social studies units this year. Yay! I am almost done with my MATTER UNIT. I hope I will feel well enough to get it done tomorrow.

Here is my pacing guide for this unit:
Pacing Guide
Week 1: What is the Constitution?
Week 2: The US Flag, Symbols, & Pledge
Week 3: Texas Flag and Pledge (in separate unit that I will cover because I teach in Texas...to be posted soon)
Week 4: Celebrate Freedom (wrap up importance of freedom, symbols and constitution)

You can click these pictures for more information.

For a family project, I will send home this flag with each student and give each family a week to create their own family flag. They can use pictures and/or words. I created one of my family as an example for you. I did this on my computer though so theirs will look a little different. I included family pics, our favorite vacations, places to eat and shop, etc. I think this is a great way to make a real life connection to what they have learned in school. Click on any of the pictures below to download this freebie. Also, BIG SHOUT OUT to my bestie Tammy from Live Laugh Love Everyday in Kindergarten for giving me this great idea!

I hope you love my new unit and this freebie. I would love for you to leave feedback on TPT if you buy this unit and/or a comment here with your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Here is a pic of my "We the Kids" preamble my class did last year. You can read that post by clicking HERE.

Oh, one last thing. I am SO excited to grab this amazing song from Debbie Clement. She was the keynote at I Teach K this year. Love, Love, Love her!! Her song Red, White, and Blue is simply wonderful. You can see a group of littles singing it on youtube here.

Here is the link to buy it too. I asked her if she would put it on sale until Tuesday for you and she said YES. Take a peak!
