Guess what?

Chicken butt! Haha! Sorry, I couldn't come up with a clever title for this post. I have summer brain, or lake brain, or mom brain. you choose!

I have just started my whirl wind of a month! This week the fam and I are in New Braunfels at a lake house. We rent a lake house every summer but always pick a different lake. I guess we are weird like that. Good news, I have had no near death experiences this year. I’m very excited about that. J I’m taking the kids to Schlitterbaun tomorrow. I’m praying I don’t look like a lobster when I get home. Hubs doesn't do water parks, or amusement parks, or just parks in general. Haha! Our trade off is that I get to hang out with one of my blogging besties on Wednesday, Reagan from Tunstall Times. I’m not sure what we are going to do but honestly we could camp out in the WalMart parking lot and talk and I would be happy.

After the lake house, we will be home for a few days then off to see family in Oklahoma. If you have been following me for a while, you know that we do this every summer. My kids love cousin time. J Then, straight to Vegas for I Teach K, back to Dallas for Frog Street Splash Conference and finally back home for a day. That was supposed to be the end of my travels but then I got this genius idea one day last week and added another trip to the agenda.

My youngest son and I were talking about how upset he was that he can’t go to camp (again). He is 13 and old enough for youth camp but he is very immature for his age and not everyone knows how to deal with his quirks. This is one of the parts that are hard for me as a parent of having a child that is developmentally delayed and has mild aspergers. Our life kinda revolves around our youngest (at least his schedule) and we do have to make tons of considerations for him, which is kinda hard to deal with sometimes. Laying my burdens aside, I know there are days that it is just tough being him and that make me sad.

SoI started thinking (dangerous I know). I wish I could do something special for J. He loves legos, like loves them big time. He can build the most AMAZING things with them. He wants to work for them one day and they would be crazy not hire him. I know most boys his age or into sports and other things but he still loves his legos. He uses them to put his crazy smarticles to use. He really is brilliant, just in different ways. So, I thought how cool it would be if I took him to Legoland? (This was my thought process on Tuesday) I looked online and right now you can buy a hopper pass for all three areas for five days for $86. That is usually the price for one day. I looked online at airfare (expecting the worst) and found a ridiculously good deal. So I talked to hubs and BAM (this Wednesday)! I booked our trip. This is completely insane! I will only be home for four days (at different times) in four weeks and I will be without hubs (BIG SAD FACE) for three weeks minus one day in between Vegas/Dallas and California. I’ve lost my mind but I don’t care. My son deserves this experience and the window of opportunity to give it to him is closing. We may have to eat PB&J every day but it doesn't matter. So, while my other kids are at youth camp, we will be hitting up Legoland in California. Oh, my nephew is coming with us too. Both boys have never flown before so it should be a real experience. I didn't realize that I would be away from hubs for so long when I planned all this so that makes me a little sad but we will survive.

So, I really need to get my rear in gear and get some stuff done before I can’t remember my name anymore. Follow me on FB for updates. I post there every day. It’s just way easier. J

Anywho, here is a pic of my latest unit. You can click the pic for more info. It’s currently on sale. J

You know I am a big fan of year round centers that make my your life so much easier. I’m pretty excited about this one. I am trying so hard to bring back more traditional kindergarten activities next year if it kills me. Art, play dough, um PLAYthose are important parts of learning. I just have to make sure they are tied to an objective so everyone’s happy. Ya hear me? Haha!

Ok, I am off to bed. I have to get up early to get my float on. I wish I could bring my laptop and work while kids shoot down slides that would make me crap my pants. Hubs probably would veto that though. Speaking of veto (I know, I’m all over the place, sorry!) are you watching Big Brother? We are kinda obsessed with it each year. We watched the first episode and apparently it was on tonight but my husband (notice I didn’t say hubs bc he made me mad) didn’t bother to tell me it was on because “I was having fun in the lake.” I gave him the stank eye!! So, I have NO IDEA what’s going on the show YET but I would like to think if I ever lose the rest of my weight (because they don’t let fluffy people on there I think), I could try out because I would totally love it. I couldn’t blog though which is a bummer but you could watch the show and really see all of my flaws. Ok seriously, off to bed before I see another squirrel. Peace out!

Oh, and YES I realize I said “so” about a thousand times in this post. I’m going to blame the sun for sucking out my brain cells with its magic power.

Last thing (seriously), hubs and I saw The Heat today. It’s really funny but they dropped a gazillion f-bombs. That is my least favorite word in the world and we won’t even go into how many KIDS were at this rated R movie, but it was funny. Just heads up. Night! (for realz)

  3. I know the Legoland in Florida lets teachers in for free so I'm assuming the one in California does also. You may want to look into that. Your son (and the rest of you) will love it!

  4. Crystal, my son (now 21) is also very high-functioning Aspergers. He used to be very passionate about Legos but now it's his girlfriend and online gaming that claim that title. :) You are a wonderful mom for providing this once-in-a-lifetime experience for him! And you'll be there to share it with him! Win, win!
Thanks, also for the great play-dough center. I'm going to purchase it right now!
Enjoy the rest of your lake time,
    Marcy

  10. We are going to Legoland this year too! I think there are only certain days they let teachers in for free but it would be worth checking to see if its when you are there. I know I can't wait to be in sunny CA! Have fun!
