Greetings friends. We had a great week in kindergarten! Is it corny to say how much I LOVE my job?! True Story!
This week, our literacy learning was centered around the book "Brown bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?" You can check out my unit by clicking here.
Students got to bring a bear to school on Thursday. Thursday night the bears stayed over for a slumber party. When we got to school on Friday, we found them in all of our centers. They even got out a few Early Finishers. Fun! On Friday we have our Teddy Bear Picnic. Our picnic got rained out (Yay for rain in Texas!) so we had it inside. One day I am going to finish my Teddy Bear Picnic mini unit. :)
Each day, I added two sentences to our pocket chart. This is a great way to practice the sight words "I, see, a". Because we read this big book every day, student memorize it. I have students practice reading the sentences in the pocket chart, pointing to each word. This helps them with tracking text and helps them feel like a "reader". They also create their own mini reader that they put in their book box. They LOVED reading their Brown Bear reader to their actual bear during Read To Self.
Each week we add a new poem to our Poetry Folder. This week, we added Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear. We learned the words and movements. At the end of the week, we illustrate the poem in our folders and practice "reading" it to our friends.
I am starting a new section in my posts called "Homeschool Connection." This will feature some of my products at work with your littles at home. Here you will see how my little friends used my Brown Bear Unit at home for learning fun. The quotes are from the parent teacher who shared them with me. I love this!!
Click the picture below to download these fun FREEBIES for your classroom or home littles. They include an I have, Who has? game and a dice game. I LOVE Brown Bear. My kids love Brown Bear. It's a Win Win people! If you want to see more of my unit click here.
Before I go, I wanted to share my newest unit with you. I created this little mini unit today. Next week, we will use the book Little Red Hen for our literature lessons. I created this to help me out. I hope you like it too. Click here or the picture below to see more.
Next week is going to be a whirlwind of a hot mess. We have at least one thing Every Single Day! It's Homecoming Week. Enough said. My church always works the concession stands on homecoming to give the football boosters a chance to watch their kids play the big game. It's a love/hate relationship really. I don't love the concession stands but it's always a good time because we are all a little crazy and when crazy combines there is always a mess of laughter.
We are also testing for report cards next week. I mean, where has the time gone? The first six five weeks bites the dust! Now don't hate me, but I do not want this year to fly by. Seriously! I have only 19 kids this year. Do you know how seriously awesome that is? And, even better news, it doesn't look like I will need any self help programs, ehem, this year either. I am speaking in code here. You get my drift? Nothing that starts with..Hi, my name is Crystal and... Haha!
Tomorrow is a low of 60 and high of 80. Oh my goodness. Could it possibly mean that Texas may actually see Fall this year? Probably not, but I'm lovin it! That's all I got. Peace!
Do you sell your poems in your store? I am interested in starting poetry in my class.
